Hawaii Day 4- March 12

I have been so excited to blog about this day, because I think it was my favorite day in Hawaii.  We went surfing!  I am a big time ocean lover, and I've wanted to surf for a long time.  So this was a very exciting day for me!  We drove down to Haleiwa that morning and followed this super cool car to Puaena Point for our lessons.
We spent the first few minutes learning how to stand up on the boards, and practiced going through all the steps very quickly.  Our instructor was super nice!  He is from Denver, and I guess he's the sister of the girl who runs the North Shore Surf Girls and so he was just helping her out.  He was a great instructor and it was fun to run into him around Haleiwa that afternoon.
After we had practiced, we were ready to hit the waves!  I volunteered to go first because I was just so super excited.  I had been dreaming about this for days, so I was absolutely convinced that I would be able to get up right away.  Lo and behold, I had a PERFECT first wave!  I got up quickly and rode the wave all the way in until it died and I had to sit back down and paddle back out.  It was SO great!!
Steve also had some great runs!  (And don't you love his pink shirt!)
I had so much fun surfing!  I think it was my very favorite part of this trip.  If I lived in Hawaii, I could definitely become a surf bum.  Easily.
After we finished surfing, we drove back in to Haleiwa to go to M. Matsumoto's Grocery Store for some shave ice.  So yummy!
Other random moments of the day:  We went to Foodland to stock up on some supplies, and saw the largest pile of Spam I've ever seen in my life.  Apparently it's quite popular on the islands.
And check out the awesome numbering at our condo's parking lot.  I guess it would have been just too simple to put the numbers in order... :)
We ended the day with a trip to Laie point.  It's a beautiful look out spot in Laie.  We visited again the next morning and got some pictures I'll share next time.  :)
