To Enlighten the Public Consciousness

My wife will be proud of me for making another post. Wahoola! I'm going to talk about the gas stations in Scipio Utah. Exciting!...I know. As we all know, gas prices have been very high this summer, the highest ever in all of ever to be more specific (Sure, they have recently began comming down...a little...we'll see how long that will last...probably not long). Anywho, Lindsey and I have taken a few trips to northern Utah this summer and we often stop about mid-way between Cedar and SLC for a break. This stop takes place in any of a few towns, whether it be Filmore, Nephi, or the not-quite-world-renowned, Scipio. I've always liked stopping in Scipio. Back in my school boy days, whenever we took a bus trip up north, it seems Scipio was THE place our buses stopped to refuel, usually at the Sinclair. Whether I was traveling with the band, the cross country team, or the track team, I always enjoyed getting a snack from the Sinclair or from the Texaco across the street. These two gas stations have been in Scipio, serving freeway traffickers for many years. One day, around four years back, some friends and I spent several hours playing card games in the Scipio Texaco. Good times, but that really doesn't have anything to do with my point in this post. Moving on...Scipio's solitary locale has been good to these gas stations over the years. Then came the Chevron. A nice, new, attractive place WITH a Dairy Queen attached and very nice bathrooms. When you are driving by Scipio you are much more likely to take notice of the Chevron than the other two measly gas stations. Moreover, because of the Chevron's prominence on the west side of the interstate, many a nitwit stop there for gas. I stop there for Dairy Queen and the nice Bathrooms, but NEVER for gas! Why? I'll tell you why! Over the course of this summer, Lindsey and I have noted that the Scipio Chevron charges ruffly 30 CENTS MORE PER GALLON than the two stations on the other side of the freeway! OUTRAGEOUS, isn't it? Yes it is! Anywho, we found this little secret out one day when we noticed how exorbitant the prices were at Chevron. We thought between ourselves, 'well, the other stations in Scipio can't be all that different since they are just across the street, and gas stations in the same locale typically have comparable prices'. Nevertheless, we thought we would check the truth of our assumption. So we journeyed to the other side of the freeway to see the other two stations, and frankly, we were 'sore amazed'. A month or so later we stopped by the stations and took these pictures. Because you can't see the other two stations from the Chevron, Chevron can capitalize on the ignorance of people who carry the same assumption about comparable gas prices that we had. Moral of the story: don't buy gas at Scipio's Chevron, go to the Texaco or Sinclair for that. The Chevron is only good for bathrooms and Dairy Queen. Peace.

I loved the trip to Scipio where we all played cards all day long at the gas station eating cheese curds! Those were some good times. It seems so long ago though!

Wow, I had no idea. I haven't filled up at the old Texaco or Sinclair since the Chevron went up. Never again (though those high powered hand dryers in the Chevron are awesome).

Playing cards at the Texaco was so fun, kinda weird since we were in a gas station all afternoon, but it was still way fun.
