Last week I was teaching my kids about equivalent fractions. Equivalent was one of their vocabulary words, so to start off the lesson I had them talk to their neighbor and take turns explaining what the word equivalent meant. I noticed that two students at the back weren't talking to each other. Boy was waiting patiently, while Girl was staring off into space. Girl is a tiny little diva who tries to act like she's 16. (She was wearing heels today... she's 8!) Anyway... I go back to them, and tell Girl that she needs to tell Boy what the word equivalent means. I startle her and she jumps a bit, then turns right to Boy and blurts out (quite loudly) "I love you!" (I'm laughing as I'm typing this...) It was great!! Much better in person... but just try to picture in your head a little 8 year old boy turning bright red as the whole back row starts chuckling and Mrs. Corry is laughing so hard she is crying and can't talk. It took me nearly 3 minutes to get my class going again. I would finally get my composure and go to the front of the class, only to look back and see Girl- at which point I'd start laughing again. I hear all kinds of things as a teacher, but this was the first confession of love. :) Fortunately, Boy and Girl are both great kids with great senses of humor, so by the end of the day they were laughing about it and by the next day it had essentially been forgotten. But I still think it was the best thing I've ever seen in my classroom!

Hahaha! I LOVE this story! Oh, and we have a new blog--which I unfortunately don't post on very often-- but just FYI, it's www.greglovescaitlin.blogspot.com. Have a happy day!
